New York City, NY — Crunch Time Apple Growers brought the monster crunch to New York City this weekend. The launch party for SnapDragon® apples was held at the Andaz on Friday evening, and a live SnapDragon apple tasting was held in Times Square on Sunday, October 28th.
Apple growers from around the state gathered with regional media and talent from the Tough Mudder races. Attendees got their chomp on with SnapDragon apples at Andaz 5th Avenue on Friday, October 26th. The event launched the season for SnapDragon apples and celebrated partnerships with specially created cocktails and several innovative dishes featuring Snapdragons created by Andaz chefs.
Sunday’s event brought SnapDragon apples to Times Square as the team handed out delicious SnapDragon apples and gave away a Schwinn bicycle in a live drawing. Even the naked cowboy got in on the fun in signature style, creating a melodic ode to the apple.
Joel Crist, board chair for Crunch Time Apple Growers, was humble when asked of the weekend’s success. “The support we received – both at Friday’s event and from the excited crowd in Times Square – was a real reminder of how much New Yorkers love our homegrown apples.” Crist is also a 5th generation farmer and, at 30 years old, one of several next-generation farmers who are moving the industry forward.
